Agusan broadcaster arrested for estafa
TANDAG, Surigao del Sur- A radio commentator here publicly known to be a critic of Lakas senatorial bet Surigao del Sur Rep. Prospero Pichay, Jr was arrested Monday for estafa. Surigao del Sur police identified the broadcaster as Alvin Malaza, 39, married and resident of Barangay Mabua of Tandag. He was arrested in Barangay Victoria, Tago, Surigao del Sur by policemen armed with a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Herminigildo Andal of the Regional Trial Court Branch 27 on December 19, 2005. A P4,000.00 bail bond is set for his temporary release. Before his radio stint here in Tandag, Malaza worked as freelance with different radio stations in Butuan City. After several months, Malaza left Butuan City and transferred to Tandag where Malaza worked as a radio block timer. He was also said to have served as a press relation officer of former Tandag Mayor Elizabeth Ty Delgado a known political rival of Rep. Prospero A. Pichay, Jr. He survived two armed attacks made by unidentified gunmen before the May 2004 elections. Malaza bore gunshot wounds in different parts of his body in the twin attacks.- GMANews.TV
